A 100-word story: Sex in the State Apartments

Higgs_Fig_1_blog-300x209Whether it’s clothes moth, carpet beetle or woodworm, we will stop at nothing to keep these voracious pests at bay, even resorting to fiendish tricks to curb their passion.  When the clothes moth population started to increase, we used a new weapon at our disposal — sex! We scattered powder tablets containing the female moth pheromone in the affected area, attracting males who fluttered around in great excitement, coating themselves in powder.  Frustrated at the lack of females, these chaps attracted other unsuspecting males who tried to mate with them.  The resulting embarrassment left many females unmated, so reducing the moth population.
